Who attends New York Writers Workshop classes?
Everyone, from the age of 12 (so far, that’s the youngest), to octogenarians. Our classes and workshops in New York City attract people from all five boroughs, other counties, the tri-state area, and Pennsylvania. Our pitch conferences include attendees from all over the continent and abroad.
What levels do you teach?
We have courses for people who’ve never written anything, courses for people who are already published, and courses for people in between those stages. Our fall, winter and spring roster of classes at the JCC includes at least one workshop at each level, and our classes at other venues include classes of varying levels.
Who attends New York Writers Workshop pitch conferences?
People from all over the country and all over the world have attended our Perfect Pitch Conferences for fiction and non-fiction. The age range of attendees varies widely. The only prerequisite to registration is that you have a book idea that we think might be of some interest to publishers.
Do you offer scholarships?
We make every effort to make our services available to everyone. In cases of demonstrated need, we offer scholarships.
Do you have online courses?
Yes. Please check the Classes page frequently for availability.
Do you do any community outreach?
We offer an ongoing series of free workshops at various branches of the New York Public Library. We have implemented other free workshop programs at schools, prisons, hospitals, and retirement homes. We'd love to expand our programs to veterans’ groups, your local libraries, community and recreation centers, and any other venues you suggest. If you would like to arrange for us to host a free workshop in your community, please contact us: [email protected]
Who attends the free workshops offered at the New York Public Library?
Anyone may attend. Each library has its own policies for signing up, and maintains waiting lists. These workshops are popular, so we recommend signing up in advance to ensure that you get in on the night of the workshop.
Do you teach workshops outside New York City?
Any time we can. We’ve consulted in Singapore, run workshops in Thailand, the Philippines, Italy, Kansas, Mississippi, upstate New York, and Connecticut. If you would like to arrange a writing workshop in your area, please contact us: [email protected]
